About the Board of Studies
The Board of Studies is an academic committee constituted at the department or faculty level. It ensures that the curriculum is relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with academic standards, industry needs, and regulatory requirements.
It includes:
- Head of the Institution (Chairperson)
- Senior faculty members
- Subject experts from other institutions
- Industry professionals
- Alumni representatives
- Expert nominated by the University

Roles of Board of Studies
a) Curriculum Development
- Design and revise syllabus for all courses
- Ensure alignment with Program Outcomes (POs) and Course Outcomes (COs)
- Incorporate emerging trends, technologies, and innovations
b) Academic Planning
- Recommend new courses, electives, and programs
- Suggest credit structure and course distribution
- Plan academic frameworks like CBCS (Choice Based Credit System)
c) Quality Assurance
- Maintain academic standards and rigor
- Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (like UGC, AICTE, PCI)
- Benchmark curriculum with leading institutions
d) Industry Integration
- Introduce skill-based and industry-relevant subjects
- Promote internships, projects, and experiential learning
- Include inputs from industry experts
e) Evaluation Reforms
- Suggest methods of assessment (internal, external, practical)
- Frame question paper patterns and evaluation schemes
- Ensure outcome-based education (OBE) practices
Responsibilities of Board of Studies
a) Syllabus Approval and Revision
- Periodically review and update syllabus (usually every 2–3 years)
- Approve course content, references, and learning objectives
b) Course Outcome (CO) Mapping
- Define COs for each subject
- Map COs with Program Outcomes (POs) and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)
c) Recommendation to Academic Council
- Submit proposals for approval (new courses, revisions, changes)
- Provide justification and supporting documents
d) Faculty Support
- Recommend textbooks, reference materials, and teaching methods
- Suggest faculty development programs (FDPs), workshops, seminars
e) Monitoring and Review
- Review student performance and feedback
- Analyze results and suggest improvements
- Ensure continuous improvement in teaching-learning processes
f) Question Bank and Assessment Standards
- Approve model question papers
- Maintain standard question banks aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy
g) Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain records of meetings and decisions
- Ensure documentation for accreditation bodies (NBA, NAAC)

Activites
Meetings and Proceedings:
- The Board of Studies shall meet at least twice a year.
- Special meetings may be convened as per institutional requirements.
- The decisions taken in the meetings shall be documented and implemented by the concerned departments.
